This post in one of the nearest to my heart as i belong Hyderabad Karnataka Region and its gives immense please to share few facts about Hyderabad Karnataka Region.
Historical Background:
While Karnataka became independent with the rest of the country on the 15th of August, 1947, the story was a little different in some parts of the state that were under the rule of the Nizam of Hyderabad. Hyderabad consisted of large portions of what were later to be the north eastern districts of Bidar, Gulbarga and Raichur of Karnataka state. The lingayat minority in these regions also nursed the grouse that they had been neglected and resented the oppression of the Nizam and the Razakars. The Nizam refused to accede to India until his rule got overthrown by force. Following the 'police action' against the Nizam, Hyderabad province and its citizens became independent on 17 September 1948. This day is celebrated by the Karnataka government as the Hyderabad-Karnataka liberation day.
The architect of this liberation was Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, who liberated this region from Nizam of Hyderabad. To respect the duty of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel a statue has been installed in Timmapuri Chowk(circle) at Gulbarga, and subsequently the circle is named after him now. Now it is called as sardar patel chowk. This chowk is strategically located near Bus stand,Railway station and Mini Vidhana Soudha.
The Hyderabad Karnataka area is now has 4 districts named Bidar, Gulbarga, Raichur and Koppal. Recently Govt of Karnataka has announced Yadgir as a District which is now a part of Gulbarga District.
Mr Basavaraj Koppal has compiled the liberation in detail in the following links:

Present Day Hyderabad Karnataka Region:
Even after its liberation from Nizam's 61 years back ,the present day Hyderabad Karnataka(HK) region gives a dismal picture in socio-economic scenario. There were many chief ministers, state ministers and union ministers from HK region, but the development of the region was neglected. According my father, the best chief minister that karnataka had is J.H.Patel. He belongs to HK region.During his period there was rapid growth in these districts compared to other tenures, but the pace couldn't be sustained after his defeat in polls. Many people dont agree with my father as J.H.Patel was more famous for being alcoholic and womaniser, but the fact is that he was good administrator. Raichur and Bellary are bordered by Andhra Pradesh, whereas Bidar and Gulburga are bordered by both Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra. A high power committee was setup to study Regional Imbalances under Late D.M.Dr Nanjundappa was submitted to the State Government in 2002, no serious effort had been made to implement the recommendations of the committee to find a permanent solution to the problem of inequality in development.
These districts are considered most backward districts in karnataka state.
1. The literacy rate is very low.
2. Education Infrastructure is bad
3. Per capita income is very low.
4. No or less industrialization.
5. Less rainfall. Crops are dependent on the rainfall.
6. Lack of basic amenities in towns and villages.
Brighter side: Other than historical significance
1. Raichur and Bellary have thermal power plants, which provide more than 20% of power generation of state. Raichur alone generates 2100 MW of power. Bellary is known for mining.
2. Bidar has a Indian Air Force base.
3. Gulburga has huge limestone reserve and many cement factories around. Gulburga University is located in Gulburga.
